Calling Jesus Lord is easy until He asks something of us. In Luke 6, Jesus gives some of His clearest and most challenging instructions, including loving enemies, forgiving others, and dealing with our own blind spots before focusing on someone else's. His pointed question cuts through all of our good intentions: why do we keep calling Him Lord if we are not doing what He says? Hearing Jesus and following Jesus are not the same thing. Obedience isn't about earning God's love. It is about trusting Him enough to actually do what He says. The unseen, unglamorous work of following through is what builds the kind of foundation that holds when life gets hard.
