Greatness

Most of us spend a lot of energy trying to get ahead, and we develop strong ideas about fairness and who deserves what. In the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard, Jesus challenges those ideas by showing a landowner who pays every worker the same wage, regardless of how long they worked. The workers who started early were not cheated. They simply could not handle someone else receiving the same generosity they had received. Grace is not fair, and that is actually good news, because most of us are not the workers who showed up at sunrise. We are the five o'clock workers. None of us can stand before God and say He owes us something. Because of Jesus, God offers forgiveness and life to anyone who comes to Him, and that changes everything.
