The Hunger Life
Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:6 that the deepest hunger we carry is not for food, success, or comfort, but for God Himself. He uses the images of hunger and thirst to describe a desire that reaches the level of urgency, not a casual interest squeezed into a busy schedule. Righteousness, in this context, is not about trying harder. It is about a heart that God is changing from the inside out, one that increasingly wants what He wants. The promise Jesus makes is simple and direct: those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. Temporary things like careers, relationships, and achievements are genuine gifts, but they were never designed to carry the weight of our deepest needs. Only Jesus can meet that need. The healthiest followers of Christ are not the ones who think they have arrived, but the ones who still have an appetite for more of Him.
